“What will be the price of security in the face of the new international political scenario?" This is the question that opens N. Walter’s analysis, based on the presence of an inalieble bond between security and economy. The international reality rapidly evolves, and the threat of terrorism imposes society with a high price to pay in order to maintain elevated levels of security. The most dramatic and dangerous effect on world economy is the closure of various countries towards other cultures, races and religions, and hence the development of a divided world. The result of such a scenario goes without saying: a grave loss of well-being, above all in the poorer, less developed countries. With regards to security, the only positive data that has emerged from Walter’s considerations is that the new security problems will not create a divide between the United States and Europe. Instead, Europe could actually benefit from the current closure of the American integration process, and persuade businessmen world-wide to invest in European countries. The expectations are high, but the road that must be taken to create a dynamic American business system will be very long.
